Jasper Payne Honored

Tennessee State Numismatic Society board members and officers made a surprise presentation at the recent BRNA show in Dalton, Georgia. With Jasper Payne's family in attendance, they presented him with the annual TSNS Paper Money Award.
The award had been established by Jasper Payne many years ago and was to be given yearly to that person or organization who had most actively promoted the collecting of Paper Money in the state of Tennessee. It has been given for outstanding articles, outstanding exhibits, etc. It was once given to the Memphis Coin Club for its Memphis Paper Money Show. Now it was being given to Jasper himself.
Jasper was indeed surprised! Several TSNS members spoke about the award. Dennis Schafluetzel (current 1st VP of TSNS), who has won the award several times for exhibits and articles, said "It is one my favorite awards". Gayle Pike (current Secretary and Bourse Chairman) who has won the award twice said "I have won every award TSNS has including Outstanding Member but the Jasper Payne Paper Money Award is my favorite. The knowledge about Tennessee paper money this gentleman has is amazing and to win an award named for him is indeed a great honor."
The presentation was taped and photographed. Here are several of the photos:
